Unas de las grandes ventajas de hacer lo que hacemos, es la oportunidad que tenemos de conocer gente creativa, con ideas inspiradoras y que compartan sus historias con nosotros.
Una de nuestras clientes favoritas, Mariluz, con quien trabajamos hace unos meses para cambiar su comedor (os acordaréis del controversial mueble de Ikea), nos contactó para ayudarle con un proyecto muy interesante.
One of the nice things in doing what we do is that we get to meet lots of very creative people. And when they are kind enough to share their stories and some of their ideas, it can be a great source of inspiration for us.
You may remember our client Mariluz, the one with the controversial piece of IKEA furniture… she is one of those creative encounters… This time she got in touch for a bit of help on a very interesting project.
Ella decidió, junto a su hermana Silvia, montar una tienda de ropa para niños tan pronto supieron que la tienda La Lluna, que llevaba 20 años atendiendo a los más peques y de la que eran clientes, estaba a la venta.
She had decided, along with her sister Silvia, to open a children’s clothing store. And the idea came to life when they heard that the store La Lluna, selling kids clothes for more than 20 years, was for sale.
They wanted to follow the same line as the former store, but adding their personal touch and implementing a few esthetic changes. With lots of daring and fun ideas, they decided to take the challenge of decorating the store by themselves to start creating a space more in line with their taste.
The metamorphosis did not stop with the esthetics but it also involved tweaking the concept. La Lluna was transformed into Lalulen, changing from being multi-brand to representing a single designer brand.
After a few weeks of reflecting on what they really wanted for the store, Mariluz and Silvia contacted us again. This time with clear ideas and pieces to transform.
Quisieron seguir la misma línea de la legendaria tienda pero dándole un toque personal y haciendo algunos cambios estéticos. Con ideas muy claras y atrevidas, decidieron tomar las riendas de la decoración ellas mismas y empezar a crear la tienda que se acercaba a lo que querían.
La metamorfosis no solo fue estética, sino que al final también conceptual. La Luna se convirtió en Lalulen, y pasó de ser una tienda multi marca a una tienda de diseñador, o diseñadoras en este caso.
Luego de definir un poco más el estilo de la tienda, Mariluz y su hermana nos contactaron de nuevo, ya con ideas más claras y con piezas preparadas. Lo primero que nos llegó al taller fue una mesa de madera maciza que necesitaba ser el centro del espacio sin ser necesariamente el centro de atención.
El propósito principal de esta mesa, era de servir de apoyo para mostrar la ropa a los clientes mientras compraban.
Las diseñadoras habían decidido hacer más acogedor el espacio por medio del amarillo, azul verdoso y rosa con el que pintaron las paredes y siguiendo esta línea, decidimos que la mesa tendría algo de este amarillo.
We started with a wooden table that would be at the center of the store but that they did not necessarily want to be the center of attention. The table’s main purpose was to allow clients to see the clothes in more detail after taking them from the racks and laying them on it.
The interior designers had decided to make the space cozier with yellow, pink and greenish blue paint on the walls. Following this thought, we decided to add yellow to the table.
La mesa tiene una talla increíble que la hace muy especial, así que decidimos dejarla intacta luego de limpiar el barniz brillante que tenía. Para dar un poco de luz en la parte inferior de la mesa y que contrastara con el suelo oscuro, pintamos la mitad de las patas.
The table has an outstanding carving work that makes it very special. We decided to leave it as it was after removing the shiny varnish. We added then this nice yellow to the lower part of the legs, like socks, to give light and contrast to the darker wooden floor.
También usamos este color amarillo para hacer el tablero de la mesa que hicimos en MDF con puntas redondeadas para que los niños no se hicieran daño.
We also used yellow to make the table top. We did an MDF surface with rounded corners to make it safe for the little ones.
Sabíamos que el espacio donde iría la mesa tiene una lámpara con varios puntos de luz y como nos encanta como reacciona el dorado con los cambios de iluminación, decidimos darle unos toques a la superficie pintando líneas de este color. Ya sabéis de nuestra obsesión…
We knew the table will be under a lamp so we decided to add some gold to create a scintillating effect. And yes, you might have guessed if you are a faithful reader of our blog, we created lines for this golden touch.
La segunda pieza que tuvimos entre manos fue un tresillo antiguo del que Mariluz se enamoró y nosotros con ella. El propósito de la transformación era traer algo antiguo y con historia al espacio y que contrastara con el estilo moderno de la tienda, además de tener un lugar para que los clientes se sentaran.
Este tresillo tenía sin duda unos buenos “huesos” pero estaba en muy mal estado y la restauración fue importante.
The second piece arrived to the workshop a few days later and … Oh my God!! what a finding… Mariluz had fallen in love with this beautiful triple bench! She wanted to bring something antique to contrast with the modern store decor but also have a place for the clients to seat.
This bench had great “bones” but it was not in a good shape and there was a considerable restoration work to be done.
La pieza había sido intervenida varias veces pero no siempre con buenos resultados por lo que tenía bastante carcoma y necesitó un buen trabajo de masillado. En Lalulen, cada detalle es importante, por lo que nos dedicamos especialmente a hacer que todos los huecos desaparecieran y así tener una superficie limpia y lisa más acorde con el diseño de la tienda.
The bench had had many interventions but not all with very good results. There were a lot of woodworms and after a thorough cleaning, we had to do a lot of masking. We spent a lot of time on making the surface very smooth and clean. After all it was to be displayed in a store that was paying a lot of attention to detail… and it had to fit right in.
El color original del tresillo era negro y en realidad le daba mucho carácter a la pieza y lo hacía bastante interesante. Sin embargo, para la tienda necesitábamos algo más delicado y que estuviera en línea con el diseño de Mariluz y Silvia. Así que nos decidimos por el rosa.
The bench’s original color was black which actually looked really nice and gave it a lot of character, but the store needed something more delicate and more in line with the overall design chosen by Mariluz and Silvia. We decided to go with pink.
El área donde estaría el tresillo es una zona con mucha madera y era necesario un poco de color sutil. La rejilla original la quisimos conservar por su exquisito trabajo a mano por lo que la reforzamos con algunos injertos asegurándonos de que sería más sólida para el tráfico de la tienda.
The area where the bench was to be placed had a lot of wood around and needed a lighter color. We wanted to keep the chair’s grating because of its beautiful handmade work so we reinforced it with a few grafts.
La idea de una colección propia, trajo a su vez la idea de personalizar las prendas de los niños según gustos o tamaños. Esto dio paso a la creación de un espacio dentro de la tienda para el trabajo de una modista.
El lugar asignado para este propósito es una habitación sencilla, a puerta cerrada, pero con un cristal que comunica con la tienda. La decoración por tanto debía seguir la línea de la marca.
An essential part of the new store concept was the idea of personalizing the clothes for the kids even further. The idea then gave birth to a new space inside the store, one where a tailor could work.
Aquí es donde entra a juego la tercera pieza, una base de máquina de coser ALFA, rescatada por Mariluz y que nos entregaron para transformar.
Si queríamos seguir con la composición de los colores de las paredes y los muebles, nuestro siguiente paso sería el azul verdoso, pero en este caso, no era la mejor opción. Siendo la estructura de hierro, pintarla de azul podría dar la impresión de estructura plástica y se perdería el encanto original.
This is when the third piece almost magically came to the workshop. An ALFA sewing machine table, rescued by Mariluz and that she wanted us to transform.
If we were to follow the color composition of the walls like we had done so far, we needed to paint this base in greenish blue. We did not go that direction because we feared that it might give it a plastic look, ruining the esthetics of the table.
There was another color very present in the store’s decor: light grey. We thought that this would integrate nicely into the iron structure.
Entonces decidimos usar otro color muy presente en la tienda, pero más acorde con una estructura de este tipo: gris claro.
Al ser de hierro, la limpieza de la base es un poco diferente. Primero la decapamos y luego le hicimos un baño de chorro de arena (granallado) para quitarle todo el óxido.
Una vez estaba limpio, pintamos la estructura de gris y recuperamos el dorado de la insignia que durante el proceso había perdido todo color.
The iron structure needed to be cleaned in a completely different way. We had to scrape the surface and then we cleaned with sand blasting to take out the rust.
Once cleaned, we painted the structure with that light grey and we restored the lost golden letters from the ALFA insignia.
Para el tablero usamos una madera maciza de pino, oscureciéndola un poco y le hicimos una veladura blanquecina para protegerla. No usamos un color fuerte en esta mesa para darle protagonismo a la pieza de ropa con la que la modista esté trabajando y no saturarla de color.
For the surface, we used pine wood. We darkened it a bit and then we added a whitewash to protect it. We did not go for a stronger color to help the tailor concentrate on the clothes and make a relaxing workspace.
Así pues abrió las puertas Lalulen hace unos días. Una tienda con estilo moderno pero con tres piezas hechas a la medida que complementan la decoración y que además traen calidez al espacio.
This is how Lalulen opened its doors a few days ago. A modern store with three special pieces of furniture custom made to complement the decor and to bring a lot of warmth and originality to the space.
