Una de las cosas que más nos gusta de nuestro trabajo, es que cada pieza tiene una historia.
Algunas vienen con una carga emocional y antecedentes familiares largos, como el reloj Morez que restauramos, pero hay otras, que aunque antiguas, no sabemos en donde han estado. Su nueva historia empieza con nosotros.
Es el caso de lo que os enseñaremos hoy. Todo empieza un día en el que recogiendo unos muebles lejos del taller, vimos como unos trabajadores desocupaban un piso para remodelarlo. La sorpresa vino cuando vimos que lo que salía por esas puertas no era la típica cocina a pedazos o la cerámica del baño destruido, sino dos cómodas, una vitrina y un increíble aparador. Todos antiguos y en bastante buen estado.
Nos lanzamos a hablar con los obreros y nos dijeron que no tenían planes para los muebles y que simplemente los sacaban para poder trabajar. Es decir, podíamos coger lo que quisiéramos. Esos son los días en que deseamos tener un coche camión que se transforme según las necesidades y así poder llevarlo todo.
Luego de pasar la frustración y asumir que el coche no iría muy lejos con un armario y dos cómodas encima, decidimos llevarnos el aparador. Era el único que podíamos poner de manera segura dentro y conducir. Así fue como llegó León a nuestras vidas.
One of the things we love the most about our job is that we work with history. Each piece has its own story to tell. Some, like the Morez clock that we restored a little while ago, come to us emotionally charged with a rich family history; others sometimes come to us anonymously, but their story starts with us.
This is precisely what happened with the work that we want to show you today. It all started with one of those normal days when we went to pick up a few things from clients. While waiting outside we noticed some construction workers who were emptying a nearby apartment. The surprise came when instead of the usual broken kitchen or bathroom tiles and usual rubbish, we watched them take out a cupboard, two dressers and one sideboard. All antique and in pretty good shape!
We jumped up and rushed to talk to the workers who told us that nobody wanted the furniture and that it was ours if we wanted it. This is when you wish you had that magical car that transforms into a truck… you know… that car!!
After the initial excitement at the idea of driving through Valencia with 5 meters of antique furniture strapped to the roof of our Fiat 500, we reverted back to the option of only taking one of them… the splendid sideboard, that also happened to fit inside the car… Boring!
This is how Leon came into our lives…
Al venir de una casa, ahorrándose los pasos de mercados o depósitos, el mueble estaba bastante entero. Igualmente tuvimos que hacer una limpieza profunda para eliminar algo del carcoma pero las piezas estaban enteras.
Coming from an actual house, skipping the usual time in markets or in storage, León came to us in pretty good shape. We still had to give it a deep cleansing to kill all the woodworms and repair their damage but all pieces were complete and in good working condition.
El mueble original era bastante barroco, con ornamentos, adornos, talla y apliques de madera. Decidimos atenuar los detalles y eliminamos algunos apliques para así tener un aparador más equilibrado y moderno. Elegimos un color berenjena que nos gusta mucho por su contraste con la madera y lo aplicamos en las zonas planas.
The original furniture was heavily decorated: ornaments, carving and wood and metal work. We attenuated these details by eliminating some and ending with a more balanced and modern piece.
Eggplant was the color of choice that we applied to the flat areas. We love that color, it always goes great with wood.
Al limpiarla le quitamos todo el barniz brillante que llevaba y aplicamos uno satinado. También nos descantamos por unos pomos más sencillos que los originales, más acorde con la nueva estética que le queríamos dar.
When cleaning it we took all the old shiny varnish out and we used a satin one for the finish. We changed the knobs as well for cleaner and more modern ones to give it the look that we were looking for.
